The PSP took first place with nearly 53,000 sold, while its digital distribution-bound cousin the PSP Go was dead last with fewer than 1,800 new systems sold. Every system saw sales declines from the week before, but the pecking order was unchanged. On the hardware front, there was little change. The remainder of the software chart was filled with familiar faces, including a reentry to the charts for Capcom's Monster Hunter Freedom Unite, which was recently rereleased in a budget package. The latest entry in the publisher's Disney crossover line fell to fourth place with nearly 60,000 units sold, down more than 65 percent week-over-week. Sales for the best-seller of the previous two weeks, Square Enix's Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep, sagged significantly. Trailing in third place with more than 76,000 copies sold was the week's other big new release, Namco Bandai's anime-based 3D fighting game Mahou Shoujo Lyrical Nanoha A's Portable: The Battle of Aces. Wii a run for gamers' money, debuting in second place on the charts with 94,444 copies sold. Sega's PSP turn-based strategy game Valkyria Chronicles 2 gave New Super Mario Bros. Note to self: When designing a tank, don't use brightly colored parts for weak points. For the week of January 18-24, Nintendo's multiplayer mascot platformer tallied 110,918 sales, good enough to regain the best-seller designation. Wii recaptured the top spot in the weekly sales chart for Japanese tracking firm Media Create. My order would be gameplay: VC4 > VC1 > VC3 > VC2, while Cast + story would be very small gaps between VC1 > VC3 > VC4 then a big gap for VC2.After two weeks playing second fiddle to Kingdom Hearts' PSP debut, New Super Mario Bros. VC2's story (Racism fueled civil war) has good potential, but it was just handled so badly with so many silly plot points that took suspension of disbelief WAY too far. VC2 wasn't a bad game, it was just nowhere near the standards of the other 3 in the series, and VC3 all but made the gameplay (which apart from the material grinding was fun for being VCish gameplay on a portable console) redundant as it greatly refined the PSP gameplay (and 3d graphics as well). V0 is fine as a prototype made from parts salvaged from the ruins of the Marmota) the one-note villains (this may have just been the PSP's limitations, as they have more backstory and reasons other than "I'm a racist, I want to rule Gallia!" in the artbook and VC3) the story had some major plotholes such as how the Rebels somehow managed to occupy Randgriz for more than a month (without their V2s) while being critically over-extended and with pretty much the entirety of the Gallian army being in the North (the next point further highlights how stupid this plothole was) the Rebel successes in general were rather silly when you consider that Lanseal's pitifully small force of around 500 cadet soldiers with antique equipment was enough to push back the bulk of the Rebels consistently (Lanseal being for some bizarre plot-point reason the only military presence in the south, which is also where the Rebels were based). Past trauma is fine, but colour blindness does not spontaneously appear or disappear) the V2s (short version, there is no way in hell the Rebels had enough Ragnite to make, maintain, and run these, let alone have the resources to make them in the first place. However there were still some pretty serious flaws that didn't stem from the PSP (so gameplay mechanics are out, otherwise that mess of a class system would be in this list): Roughly half the playable cast had absolutely no bloody reason to be in a military academy at all (even main cast member Cosette had a paper-thin excuse that only just justified it) Avan straddles that thin line of being likeably thick or obnoxiously thick (I find him the most annoying thing ever, but knowing he was designed to be thickest thing in Europa at least makes me appreciate what they were trying) Cosette is a SHIT leading lady (especially in a franchise with strong leading ladies), she's weak and often rather stupid (and that whole traumatic colour blindness, that goes beyond stupid. VC2 has an awful lot of flaws, and I have come to disregard the hardware related issues as a result of being rushed to PSP (VC3 did the PSP VC a lot better from mechanics and graphics terms).
