Racket sports in the original only made use of the Wii Remote to hit the ball and not the Nun-Chuck to move a character around. Perhaps the biggest downside is that there is no mention of the Nun-Chuck attachment in Wii Sports Club. With diminishing support from EA on the Wii U, and the prospect of a Grand Slam Tennis 3 for the system unlikely, Nintendo were spurred into action with this offering of their own online MotionPlus tennis game in Wii Sports Club. Take Grand Slam Tennis for example, originally a Wii exclusive that combined MotionPlus and online play, but became a cross platform game in its second incarnation. While other publishers and developers are taking motion controlled sports games in a cross platform direction, it is important for Nintendo to underline their unique selling points if the Wii U is to thrive. They can then also compete against other clubs to improve their overall standing online. The idea here is that players locate themselves in one grouping and compete against each other. Once you have joined a particular club you cannot change for 24 hours. The Wii U screen can be used to enter these messages and, it seems likely, to view other stats about game progress.Īdditionally, the tie between player and club is a strong one. During replays of shots you can communicate with other players using preset messages and pictures assigned to the D-Pad of the Wii Remote controller. Here the Miiverse and Wii U controller come into the equation. It not only grants the game more longevity but also turns a corner from a system seller into an experience that can be played in an ongoing way. While core players may see this as Nintendo simply catching up with the pack, the combination of this family favorite eSports title and online competition is significant. This puts players in geographically centered sports clubs and lets them compete in friendly or ranked competition. In addition to the controls Wii Sports Club adds the much requested online mode.
